Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE, Install SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards in Classrooms
SMART products are used for teaching, homework assistance, meetings, distance learning and collaboration
Calgary, AB – August 26, 2004 – SMART Technologies Inc. announces the installation of SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards in several classrooms, conference rooms and an independent learning room at the Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates (UAE), by Visionaire FZE, SMART’s distributor in the UAE. With the installation of SMART Board 580 interactive whiteboards, students and teachers at the colleges now use more than 60 SMART products across the various campuses.
SMART Board interactive whiteboards are enabling new practices in classroom teaching, distance learning and collaboration at the Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE. Prior to the installation of SMART Board interactive whiteboards, instructors used ordinary whiteboards. Now, instructors use SMART Board software to create digital lessons that they present and control simply by pressing the interactive whiteboard’s touch-sensitive screen. Using a pen from the SMART Pen Tray, instructors and students can write over computer applications in digital ink and save their notes for future reference and distribution.
The Higher Colleges of Technology use SMART Board interactive whiteboards to videoconference with each other across the country, with SMART products enabling specialist teachers at one college to deliver lessons to students at another. Students watching the interactive whiteboard in their classroom see the instructor and the notes written on the interactive whiteboard in a remote location. Students also use SMART Board interactive whiteboards and videoconferencing to collaborate on projects with students at other colleges. The interactive whitebards offer even more options in independent learning rooms and for staff meetings in conference rooms.
“SMART Board interactive whiteboards are improving student outcomes in more than 100,000 classrooms around the world,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. “The use of SMART Board interactive whiteboards in classrooms, conference rooms and independent learning rooms at the Higher Colleges of Technology optimizes interactive solutions for both students and teachers.”
“SMART products help us provide the excellence and innovation in education that students have come to expect from us,” says Dr. Tayeb Kamali, director of Abu Dhabi Men’s College, one of the Higher Colleges of Technology. “Our teachers use SMART’s interactive technology tools to facilitate communication and collaboration in their classrooms and thereby improve student learning and achievement.”
“The Higher Colleges of Technology were one of the very early adopters of SMART products, and we are very pleased to see that the use of this system has rapidly replaced conventional methods of teaching and is gaining a wide acceptance and appreciation from teachers and students alike,” says Aseem Gupta, president, Visionaire Technology Group, the installer of the systems in the UAE.
